Embossed Leaves

My knitting mojo appears to have returned roughly the same time I was laid off. I’m not sure if this is the fight response (you may be closing down, but I will face the future with new socks!) or flight (anything but cover letters…) response. Whatever the reason, I’ve found that sitting down in my living room with a cup of tea, a DVD going in the background, and a few layers of blankets, cats, and hot water bottle are helping me to stay sane and warm while I finish the transition at my office and start the search for a new job.

I had saved Mona Schmidt’s Embossed Leaves from an old edition of Interweave, years before I knew how to knit socks. I cast on about a week ago using Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Uni 4-ply in a soft blue, and the pattern is a dream. I’m nuts about the star-shaped decreases on the toes.

This is the first time I’ve knit socks from the cuff down to the toe, and this pattern also called for a twisted rib, which created a really lovely braided-looking rib on the cuff.

And for once, I made no modifications to the pattern. If I were to knit these again, which I’m sure I shall be, I would probably remove some of the purl stitches on the sides and maybe end the foot pattern a bit sooner, as the socks are on the large side.

A batch of peanut-butter kiss cookies to the knitter who knows how to take a flattering photo of sock-covered foot.
