To wear or eat?

It’s a very good thing I trust Ysolda implicitly, because there was a point in my current pattern where I had a sneaking suspicion I was actually knitting a green bell pepper.

Rustic Swallowtail

Last year I picked up a skein of Zitron Trekking Pro Natura, intrigued by the unusual forest green/teal color and the strange, almost rough feel of the wool and bamboo blend. I started a pair of Snickets, but quickly realized this yearn didn’t want to be socks. So I frogged it, and while flying back from London last fall, started the Lace Ribbon Scarf. Only, that clearly didn’t work either, and in a fit of pique, I frogged it again.

It sat on my desk, waiting for the project that was Just Right. And at last, it found one. At home, ill and feeling blue, I started a swallowtail shawl. In some lights it was green, like the moss on the ocean floor, and then the light would change, and it would be blue. I’m still not decided what color it is, but either way, it made me think of pools of water, green trees, and the wings of a bird.

Love

Love is anterior to life,
Posterior to death,
Initial of creation, and
The exponent of breath.
